The hub, anticipated to be located in Acomb, will operate under the collaborative effort of NHS professionals and volunteers.

York’s Mental Health Partnership (YMHP) has announced a major milestone in their efforts to enhance mental health support across the city with the securing of over £2.4 million in funding. This financial boost will facilitate the establishment of a new 24/7 mental health hub over the next two years, aimed at providing accessible support to adults without the need for a referral.

The hub, anticipated to be located in Acomb, will operate under the collaborative effort of NHS professionals and volunteers, including clinicians, social workers, and peer support workers. The initiative promises to offer a calm and comfortable environment for the local community seeking mental health assistance.

YMHP, which has been instrumental in the "Connecting our City" project, has been actively developing a model for community-based mental health hubs. With existing plans for hubs in the west and north of York, and ambitions to expand into the east, the partnership aims to ensure comprehensive coverage of mental health services across the entire city.

Prof Lynne Gabriel OBE, Co-Chair of YMHP, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing that the new hub represents a co-designed and co-produced effort to meet the city’s mental health needs effectively. "Securing NHSE funding allows us to extend our services into a 24/7 community mental health hub – an exciting and much-needed innovation," she remarked.

Alyson Scott, CEO of York Mind, highlighted the collaborative spirit that drove the initiative, bringing together statutory and voluntary services alongside individuals with lived experiences. "Through overcoming challenges, we’ve emerged with a stronger, more trusting partnership," she noted.

The specific opening date and exact location of the hub are yet to be disclosed. However, with funding secured and plans in motion, York’s new 24/7 mental health hub promises to be a pivotal resource for enhancing mental well-being throughout the community.
