Plans for New Village "Maltkiln" Near York

Residents and stakeholders in and around Harrogate and York are being invited to voice their opinions on ambitious plans to develop a new village called Maltkiln.

The proposal, put forth by developer Caddick, outlines a vision to construct over 3,000 homes alongside two primary schools in the vicinity of Cattal, Whixley, Green Hammerton, and Kirk Hammerton.

Maltkiln is anticipated to be a pivotal response to the growing demand for housing in the area, catering to families and individuals seeking affordable and sustainable living solutions within commuting distance of both Harrogate and York. This strategic location aims to balance the need for new housing stock with considerations for environmental impact and community integration.

While the prospect of significant residential expansion may bring promises of economic growth and enhanced infrastructure, it also raises valid questions about the potential impact on local amenities, traffic management, and the area's distinctive rural character. The consultation, therefore, represents an opportunity for constructive dialogue and informed decision-making among all parties involved.

North Yorkshire Council has acknowledged the necessity of balancing development with environmental stewardship and community preservation. As discussions unfold, the council will play a crucial role in assessing the viability of the proposal against these criteria, ensuring that any development aligns with both regional housing needs and sustainable development goals
