KARAKURI by Desmond Clarke.

Karakuri is a Japanese word, originally the name of a type of complex puppet, it now refers to any intricate mechanism where the inner workings are hidden.

My Karakuri are intricate three-dimensional geometrical objects. They could be architecture, but could just as easily be microscopic crystals, or orbital sci-fi megastructures. Each one is unique, and is built by a complex process which starts with randomness, gradually shaped and sculpted into the final, symmetrical forms you see here.

This process could be the hidden, intricate mechanism, or perhaps they open, like puzzle boxes, to reveal a ticking heart within…
