With grace and fluidity presented in the centre circular movement, “Leaning into Malleability” encapsulates the mental state of ‘being in the flow’. Inspired by the teachings of psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, this artwork captures an experience of being “so immersed in a feeling of energised focus, full involvement, and enjoyment that we lose sense of space and time”. As the artist, I am transported to this beautiful state each time I paint, where hours pass by like minutes. “Leaning into Malleability” took around six hours to create yet around thirty minutes in my mind. During that time, I became so absorbed in my work that I was nowhere but completely there, present, and I could not leave until I felt so connected with the outcome that it felt bound to my very being.
This optimal state of intention and awareness can be attained in any activity, be that washing the dishes or solving a physics equation. “Leaning into Malleability” can become a medium for cultivating this immersion, with shades of blue, white, and cream creating an ambiance of serenity and presence.
Should “Leaning into Malleability” find its place in your space, my hope it extends beyond a painting… it creates a sense of calmness within you, embodying the essence of ‘being in the flow’ as if the barriers between yourself and an activity at hand dissolve. Just as I lean into the process of creation, may “Leaning into Malleability” remind you to lean into the flow of life.
