WINTER TREE by Desmond Clarke.
 
Winter Tree is part of a series of works I’ve been developing for a long time. My artwork has always been focussed on shaping natural forms, and trees have been a thread within my practice from the very beginning. This silhoutte tree-form is the most recent incarnation of that thread.
 
Technically it’s an implementation of a branching algorithm and a carefully tuned stroke-width modulation, which when combined, yield this very organic-looking result. Beyond that, though, it’s an expression of everything I love about nature, and how mathematics is a route towards understanding it.
 
Presented on acid-free, archival cotton Photo Rag Giclée paper with a silky smooth finish, from Hahnemühle the world’s oldest mill who have been producing fine art papers for more than 500 years
